Empower NYC Youth by Volunteering
-
Our Core Tutoring program provides free one-on-one online tutoring & mentoring for NYC school children in grades 1-12 who are in need of additional academic support. Aligned with the NYC Department of Education’s curriculum, our focus is on supporting students to develop reading, math and writing skills while also building confidence.
As a volunteer tutor, you tell us your availability and grade preference, and we work to match you with the right student for the school year. Virtual tutoring takes place Monday-Thursday from 3:30pm-8:30pm. Pairs meet one day a week and sessions are typically 60 minutes. We handle the scheduling and provide supplemental skill building material.
Tutors do not need to have prior experience in tutoring; just a passion for helping our students grow and well-rounded knowledge for whatever grade level you prefer to tutor in.
Unable to commit to weekly tutoring? Flexible arrangements allow volunteers to share the responsibility with a partner or team, or serve as a substitute tutor. Volunteers are accepted on a rolling basis; contact us today for more information!

Math Lab tutors provide focused math assistance to 8th-12th graders in subjects such as algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and physics.
As a Math Lab tutor, you tell us what subjects the are comfortable in, along with your availability, and we will match you will the right student.Students are expected to come to tutoring with homework or questions that they need help with. Tutors are not expected to have all of the answers! Sometimes it’s a matter of working together to solve the problem. Volunteers are accepted on a rolling basis; contact us today for more information!

Geared towards prospective first-generation college students, our College Bound programs matches high school students with mentors who can assist with making informed choices about college. From discussing goals and exploring future careers to guiding students through the college application process, your experience and dedication can make a huge difference in the life of a student navigating the process on their own.
Mentors do not need to have prior experience; just knowledge and lived experience of navigating the college application process. Mentors and students can meet weekly or as needed.
Mentors are also welcome to volunteer as tutors in one of our other programs in addition to College Bound!
